  • So surrounding Monument Valley, and Valley of the Gods, The EXISTENCE of Buttes and Mesas is the Give-away -- the CLUE -- that shows this landscape experienced AT LEAST 1500 feet of erosion???? The spires and volcanic "plugs" we see now did NOT solidify inside a Volcanic Cinder Cone, but only reached to the surface that existed at the time the molten lava thrust its way thru the geologic layers from the mantle????? That's a LOT of Geology to have been removed, by ANY Process. I can only imagine Marvin the Martian with his bitty fire-cracker fuse when he needs to vaporize the Earth because it's blocking his view of the star he REALLY wants to lookit. < | | | ] [ | | | > Looking at the photo of Valley of the Gods, with the tens of kilometers between one mesa and its neighbor, I'm wondering "What is distinctive about the structure and composition of the MESAS that they were left in place when 99 percent of the surrounding geologic material was eroded away???? Seems like they would have needed some CAP of a material Outlandishly tougher than any other local surface material to continue to survive all that erosion.

  • Brothers of the Serpent: "Conjecture, hypothesis, speculate, surmise, etc..." >>>>>> Señor Bradley, "Oh, yeah, well >> FACT." >>>>> Serpent Bros. ("oops.") ... Viewers accustomed to the more normal internet style of vicious mutually destructive attacks by disputants gasp at the gentle politeness of the Rebuke and Contrite response... ||||||||| The brute fact of the volcanic spires that make up Monument Valley tells us that this region has been a locus of volcanic / seismic activity... And we have learned at considerable pain and cost that there's no such thing as EXTINCT volcanoes and seismically DEAD localities. The potential for re-awakening is always lurking. Just because WE humans don't remember the darn things shaking and blowing their tops doesn't mean they have to pay any heed to OUR short memories.
