As we get deeper into the geomorphic evidence for megafloods, RC provides some historical reference for the evolution of the so-called “Missoula Floods” that were identified in the 1920’s by Harlen Bretz, who traversed the Channeled Scablands of eastern Washington. He called them the Spokane Floods and speculated that the floods came from accelerated melting of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet, but later tentatively accepted the uniformitarian explanation that an ice dam repeatedly formed and released a giant impounded lake from western Montana. We then continue to assess phenomenal Lake Agassiz and its many outflow spillways to the south thru southern Manitoba, the Dakotas and Minnesota, funneling into the channel at Big Stone Lake, and compare some of the identical megaflood features that have been imaged on planet Mars.

  • You all make a CRUCIAL POINT: We have to remember that the Landscape we see might in many places show only the EROSION and reshaping of the geology by the MOST RECENT FLOOD!! >>>>> 2nd viewing of this episode, year later <<<< God knows, in my life I have NOT demonstrated what could remotely be called DISCIPLINE, like I see reading the brief biography of J Harlen Bretz I found online (at www.historylink.org/File/8382) -- most of my professional skills come from flagrant Self-Indulgence intensified by OCD!!! Mr. Bretz pursued his Fascination w. Geology -- wondering What Really Formed the tortured landscapes of the Pacific Northwest --- with a Relentless Tenacity. Finished his PhD studies at University of Chicago in two years. Took me FIVE years to meander through the courses I cobbled together for my UNDERGRAD degree in Animation... I recommend the article I cited. The reflexive argument by the Orthodoxy against the Bretz catastrophic flood hypothesis seems to boil down to "Since you can't provide a source for the required volume of water, it couldn'ta happened that way." Seems like a crowd of homicide detectives standing around a corpse lying in a pool of blood and pierced by little bitty holes with powder burns, saying "Well, since you can't provide the firearm, we don't think the victim died from being SHOT!"

  • Let me see if I'm understanding: The critics of Shaw who questioned where the SUBGLACIAL water came from to form all the tens of thousands of drumlins... are essentially the SAME Critics who accepted the idea of Lake Missoula's hundreds of cubic miles of meltwater impounded by some hypothetical ice dam WITHOUT raising that question about the source of meltwater????? Can you say "Planet-sized Blind Spot?" it is Sirius-Lee BIZARRE.
